The Secret to Beating a New Poker Player While Still Protecting Your Bankroll

All the poker tricks, tips, and books in the world will not under any circumstances help you beat a new or intoxicated poker player, at least not the loose new poker player. With a new tight poker player you simply fold whenever they bet, at least that's how you'd do it if you wanted to protect your bankroll. The loose player is a lot more unpredictable and simply folding when they play a hand won't really protect or increase your bankroll. No, for the new loose player we're going to have to approach the situation differently.
The first thing you're going to have to forget about is bluffing or semi-bluffing. Never going to work, no matter how good you are. Why? Because they don't know the numbers behind the hands. Yes, you've read Super System and know that you only have a 4% chance to hit a miracle two outer on the river, but they don't. The bets you typically make to protect your hand from draws do not work. You can bet the pot all you want to prevent a newbie from chasing their flush and they'll still do it until they're out of chips, or they've taken yours.
The second thing you're going to have to learn is that the cards you're holding do make a difference against a new player. While ace or king high may win between two people who know what they're doing, you may be losing out to a pair of threes even though all the bets you made throughout the hand should have scared them away.
Small pairs are also worth more against a new player than an experienced one. You can take a pot from the new player whose playing the ace high with a pair of twos or threes. As I said the values of hands don't really mean much to them, they see an ace and think it's good. They see a pair and think they can win. Skilled players know that they have to adapt their play to beat their opponents. You have to find a style to counteract their style. With a loose new player you have to play the cards you're dealt and only bet when you have a made hand. Try to keep your bets smaller, they'll call you to the river, you'll slowly take their stack while protecting yours from a lucky suck out.
While it is true that you should be making the correct bets to make a draw the un-profitable decision for someone, you have to remember that this is advice for a single session, not a life time of poker. A lot of new players stop playing quickly because they lose money due to bad mistakes. You can push your chips all in against them and turn your game into a coin flip, or you can protect your stack and take their chips when you have the right cards. Why let luck take chips away from you? If another player takes down the new player, great, take the chips from the other player. Now you'll be able to play your game without luck playing as large of a factor.
